Ep#48: Treating Infertility With Physical Therapy with Dr. Heather Evans Part 2

You've just given birth to your beautiful, healthy baby—but now you're in the NICU. How will you go through the post-partum healing process from your baby's bedside, including how to care for your body during this time? How will you handle the emotional stressors that come along with having a fragile newborn in the NICU?

This week’s Empower Your Pelvis Podcast, Dr. Amanda Fisher welcomes back Dr. Heather Evans, PT, DPT. Heather is a pelvic floor physical therapist at Empower Your Pelvis. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 2003 and continued her career as a Jayhawk, completing her master's in physical therapy in 2005 followed by a transitional doctorate in 2013. She has been a physical therapist since 2005 and a pelvic floor specialist since 2008. Her passion is helping men and women with pelvic floor dysfunction – incontinence, pelvic pain, abdominal pain, pregnancy, post-partum, interstitial cystitis, endometriosis, painful intercourse, constipation and more.

In this episode, Amanda and Heather will be talking about how Heather combines her knowledge in Pelvic Health with her own fertility and birth experience as a NICU mama in order to help you through your own postpartum journey while taking care of yourself and for your baby, and be able to be ready physically and mentally for whatever comes your way.

They  will touch on such topics as:

  • A transvaginal ultrasound is a diagnostic test that uses sound waves to examine your reproductive organs.
  • How a book was created for first-time moms to prevent such traumatic experiences while having and delivering a baby.
  • New moms deserve healing postpartum, and this can be done right by your baby's isolette.
  • Recovery from a C-section is a long process. It's not just about your body healing itself—it's about getting your mind, heart and soul back to normal too.
  • How to address your physical and mental recovery wherever you are in your NICU journey.
  • The first step is learning what you can do to take care of yourself. You might be surprised at how much you can do—even when your baby is in the NICU!
