Ep#44: Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy: How the Doula Holistic Approach Supports Healthy Birth Outcomes with Stephanie King
As first time moms we get overwhelmed with what you feel when you give birth, it’s important to remember that you are not alone in this journey. How can you find a professional support emotional, physical and informational before, during and after your childbirth? What can you do to control your thoughts and feelings during labor, and what are the ways to help you reduce anxiety and pain during labor?
Stephanie King is a professional doula, childbirth educator, host of the Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy Podcast, and creator of the My Essential Birth course. She is also a mama to three incredible boys with very different birth stories. Stephanie does NOT believe there is any one way that is best to give birth, BUT she does believe that there is a BEST way for YOU to give birth, and she is here to offer support with whatever that looks like for you, every step of the way. She is passionate about supporting moms like you to become confident and empowered so you can have joy when you look back on your birth story.
This week’s Empower Your Pelvis Podcast, Dr. Amanda Fisher and Marin from the Empower Your Pelvis team interview our guest, Stephanie King. They will be talking about how the Doula holistic approach supports healthy birth outcomes that includes traditional health care skills like first aid, labor support, and neonatal resuscitation, and also focuses on empowering women to make informed choices about their own birthing experience.
They will touch on such topics as:
- You're stronger than you think you are. You can make decisions for your birth with knowledge, education and preparation. And those decisions will come because they're your choice, and not based out of fear.
- The more prepared you are, the less fearful you'll be, and the better able you'll be to make the right decision for yourself and your baby.
- It's a common misconception that we can tell how far along a mom is in her labor by measuring dilation.
- A Doula can help you decrease your risks of other interventions such as Cesarean births and Epidural.
- The birth of a child is a special time for both parents, and when it comes to the birth process, dads can have a lot of influence over how things go.
- The birth team is made up of a lot of people, and you can use them all in one way or another. The point is to help the mother know what resources she has at her disposal, how to work with her body when it's time to push (and how not to), and how she likes to be touched. This information is gathered during doula appointments or during childbirth courses.
